SOUTHFIELD HISTORY
Governor Lewis Cass opened up the area in the
1820's to lumbering and farming. In 1823 John
Daniels was looking for fertile farm land along
the springs and tributaries of the Rogue River.
Daniels settled in what is now Southfield and
became its founding father. The area now called
Southfield was originally part of Bloomfield. On
July 29, 1830, the town declared its
independence and was renamed Southfield after
the "south fields" of Bloomfield.
