In 2008, the approximate population of
Bloomfield Township was 42,600 with an average
age of 47.2. The community has a land area of
24.9 square miles and a low population density
of 1,710 people per square mile. Residents enjoy
an average household income of $150,969 and the
median home price was $443,974 in 2007. The
township enjoys a safe, low crime rate.

Between May and September, the average
temperature is a mild 66° with highs in the low

HISTORY OF BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP
Bloomfield Township was the first township in
Oakland County to be incorporated in 1827, and
it almost surrounds the city of Bloomfield
Hills. The name probably came from the blooming
flowers throughout the fields in the township.
Bloomfield Township has since blossomed into a
charming bedroom community and one of the best
places to live in Michigan. About 95% of the
township is made up of over 16,000 residential
homes. The beautiful environment, scenic lakes,
fine homes, and excellent community services
have led to many of the areas entrepreneurs and
business executives selecting Southeast Michigan

Highway 24 or Telegraph Road runs through
Bloomfield Township north and south. To the east
is Woodward Avenue and I-75 which all take you
into the Detroit area. Bloomfield Township is
approximately 20 miles northwest of Detroit for
an easy commute into the city.

and out of Bloomfield Township as well as many
of the surrounding communities. Just call SMART

schedules and rates. Smart also coordinates with
Bloomfield Township Senior Services to
provide residents of Bloomfield Township and
Bloomfield Hills 60 and over, transportation to
medical appointments and door-to-door

Commuting by air? No problem! You'll find it
is just a short trip into
Detroit Metropolitan International, and
Oakland County International airports.
BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP EDUCATION/SCHOOLS

The Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak is located at 8450 W. 10 Mile

Children love the Tauber Family Railroad train
ride that takes you from the zoo entrance to the
other end of the zoo and back. The Detroit Zoo
has a brand NEW Wild Adventure ride located in
the Ford Education Center. The ride is called
the HimalAmazon which is the
Extreme Log Ride that just opened April 2007. Hold onto your
hats folks, this is quite a ride!
If you enjoy sports memorabilia, don't miss
going to the
Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in the Cobo
Conference and Exhibition Center. The Michigan
Sports Hall of Fame is currently located at One
Washington Boulevard in Detroit. You can even
ride the
SMART bus into Detroit for a leisurely day. Later
have lunch or dinner at one of the great Detroit
restaurants and then ride the "People Mover"
around the downtown area. When you're ready, you
can ride the SMART bus home.
